My Fave Fad Diets

Did you ever fall for any of the “fabulous” fad diets of the past, that promised you miraculous weight loss with almost very little effort?

Raises hands, here.

I have fallen victim to one or more, TBH.

I am guilty of falling for all those claims of losing weight effortlessly. Because heck, I gained weight enjoying myself why can’t I do the same for shedding the pounds off?

Here are some of my favorites:

  1. The Egg Fast: This diet is pretty popular for those following the Keto diet. Look it up! Essentially, I had to eat nothing but eggs (up to 6 per day) cooked any way, add some fat like ghee or coconut oil for up to 5 days. Supposed to supercharge metabolism and kick-start me into ketosis. After several tries, I just ended up kick-starting my bowels.
  2. The Dukan Diet: This is a stricter version of the Atkins. Low fat, high protein, very little carbohydrates, divided into 4 phases. Oh, and it includes incorporating at least 30 minutes of walking a day. Following this diet resulted in my biggest weight loss, which I gained right back because I couldn’t sustain it after a year.
  3. The Soup Diet: LoL, did I fall for this! I consumed copious amounts of soup cooked with lots of vegetables. I hated it — just like the egg diet; I felt so deprived and wolfed down a ton of food after. But I tried it anyway. I blame it all on America’s Next Top Model. I heard Tyra used to do this before a shoot.
  4. The Keto Diet: This is the reason I have a macros calculator installed on my phone. I’ve always struggled with this, simply because I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t experiencing all the promised effects like increased mental focus and developing the ability to stop eating when full (I felt always hungry)
  5. Intermittent Fasting: The Keto Diet was the reason it took me so long to try this — I was always munching on something so I jumped to the conclusion that I wouldn’t be able to last long periods without eating.

Intermittent fasting is a bit liberating if you ask me. It made me realize that if I consciously follow a schedule of eating that I can ACTUALLY fast.

I mean, I fast for like 20 hours daily.

Yeah, I’m still pretty bummed by how slow my weight loss seems to be.

But on the flip side, it took me years and years of indulgence and lack of control to gain all the weight anyway, so I should just stop whining and just carry on.

Tally-ho!
